Cement truck rollover shuts down Union Hill Road for hours

Jul 31, 2023

A cement truck is still on its side at 1:34 p.m. Wednesday after a rollover crash while turning left onto Union Hill Road from Parrotts Ferry Road just before 10 a.m. that morning

Union Hill Road was shut down at Parrotts Ferry Road for about five hours on Wednesday due to a non-injury rollover crash involving a cement truck, California Highway Patrol said.

CHP Officer Steve Machado said the 2022 Peterbilt cement truck was going north on Parrotts Ferry Road just before 10 a.m. when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Union Hill Road and caused the truck to tip over onto its right side.

Machado said the driver worked for LK Lehman Trucking in Sonora and was uninjured, but the road was closed for about five hours as tow-truck drivers worked to get the cement truck uprighted and clear the scene.

Speed may have been a factor in the crash, Machado said.

"We believe the truck may have been going a little too fast for that turn, and it shifted the weight and overturned," Machado said.
